Class of 2023
We are looking forward to sharing with you a prosperous and exciting two years for the new Divine Providence Training Center class! This group of twenty-seven pastors comes from sixteen different counties across the country, stretching as far north as Marsabit, and as far south as Kalifi. Each pastor is already engaged in ministry yet has never received any training which is the case for the majority of pastors in Kenya. Divine Providence’s mission is to train these pastors in the Scriptures and in their role as pastors enabling them to pastor well. We love to see how far throughout the country God’s message is capable of reaching through DPTC’s well-trained pastors.
In February, the pastors met at camp ChemiChemi for their first in-session experience where they focused on Personal Health and Spiritual Development, and The Role of the Pastor in the Church and the Community. By joining together in ChemiChemi’s beautiful encampment, the pastors are able to experience fellowship together through worship, prayer, and group-styled learning. The everyday pressure of being a pastor in traditional Kenyan culture can be overwhelming at times, so ChemiChemi offers the opportunity for rest amidst their learning so the pastors can feel refreshed before they go back to their congregations.
On May 8th, the pastors joined together for another two-week session of learning. During these two weeks, their time was spent learning the Theology of Worship, Evangelism and Discipleship, Christian Counselling, and Church History. With this second session already completed, the pastors have gone back to their communities with “take-home” assignments to help sharpen the skills they’ve learned. The Divine Providence staff believes that it can be easy to sit in a classroom, listening to a speaker speak, yet challenging to apply the lessons being spoken. By assigning take-home assignments, the pastors are able to put in practice what they learn, and evaluate the effectiveness or struggles they experience. When the pastors rejoin Divine Providence in July, they can receive instruction and guidance on the skills they applied for going forward.
