May 2013 Update

mayteamA big “asante sana” goes out to the construction crew that came to Camp Chemi Chemi in May to work on improving our infrastructure while interacting with our pastors during the May school session.  Scott Manley, Garland Davis, Joe James and Mitch Manley really made an impact by resurfacing our decks; fixing leaking pipes, showers, toilets; and beginning the plans for our new outdoor patio. The students enjoyed the fellowship with their American brothers and the team thoroughly enjoyed the camp and the praise times. Additionally they got to visit some of the pastors’ local churches and Garland brought someone to know our Lord through his sharing of the Word.

Joe James remains with us and we may not let him go as he is an expert at anything related to construction and a pretty good Bible scholar himself.  Joe designed our new patio and fireplace and is working with a local construction crew to make it a reality.

Really there is not much Joe cannot do from being a servant leader to helping out by giving suggestions on our water erosion and filtration issues. At the camp, he is a soft spoken saint and we all love him as we did Scott, Mitch and Garland. God is so awesome to send these men that we met at Scott’s Bible study just a few months ago. God truly had plan for us to meet them so He could nudge us to ask them to come.

Tonight the long awaited youth team is coming to Kenya. There will be 25 of them plus Rene a friend of Elissa’s.  Jason Scott the youth minister will be bringing 16 youth and 9 adults to work with some of the pastors at an orphanage, local church and schools. Also, they will manage a community-wide sports day coordinated by Brent Brannen, a missionary intern here this summer.

Thank you for your support as our latest upgrades would not be possible without you. Each enhancement in the infrastructure takes us a step further toward our long term goal of sustainability through commercialization of our camp for mission groups and corporate retreats. We are sharing together as God designed the church by pooling our spiritual and physical resources and deploying them to serve, educate and encourage God’s children through the giftings of our supporters and short term mission visitors. Asante Sana to all of you (Swahili for thank you very much). We hope you continue to pray and support our efforts and who knows, maybe come on a mission trip here one day.
